TV / Once the province of how-to cooking shows, food media has extended its reach—but has it become too big?

Next week, ABC’s All My Children will be replaced after four decades on the air by The Chew, a lifestyle show whose hosts include three chefs and which stars the food in your refrigerator. Who could have predicted that network TV would trade sex, scandal, and drama for dough hooks and mixing bowls? But consumers’ relationship with food now has less to do with lining stomachs and more to do with entertainment and reaction to an economy that fosters domesticity.

THE PLACE exposed ceiling and brick walls do give the place a bit of a renovated factory feel,
THE MENU over-salted and pretty much inedible...  failed on many levels.... chain restaurant quality.
THE BUZZ service quite good

PROFILE / The Cheesecake Factory: Feeding the 'Common Man'

Walk into one of David Overton's 153 restaurants and chances are you'll end up ordering something that's been "cheesecake-ized." That is, a dish that represents a twist on a classic flavor served to you in a portion size that's large -- very large.

"It's what America wants to eat," Overton said.

Overton, 65, is the founder and chief executive of the Cheesecake Factory restaurant chain, based in Calabasas, Calif. It's one of the most profitable restaurant chains in America with annual sales of $1.6 billion, thanks to menu items ranging from the eponymous cheesecake to pasta carbonara to chicken tortillas to miso-glazed salmon. The latter dish was inspired by the miso-glazed cod served at an icon of haute cuisine, the Japanese restaurant Nobu.

Burger King's Mega BK Stacker, starring one of the manliest men of all—the UFC's longest reigning middleweight champion, Anderson Silva.

For those unfamiliar with Silva, he's famous not only for his mixed martial arts fighting but also for his unexpectedly high-pitched voice. (He's also Brazilian.) Burger King has a bit of fun with this by having Silva lip-sync "Lovin' You" by Minnie Riperton, which ends on a glass-shatteringly high note (not to mention juxtaposing him with a pair of tweeting songbirds). The object of Silva's affection is, of course, the Mega BK Stacker, an enormous pile of grease that appears to be made up of about 20 layers of meat and cheese. The serenade takes the form of a schlocky '90s music video, with Silva dressed in the requisite all-white suit, turtleneck, and black leather gloves as he over-emotes into a gold microphone—that is, when he's not busy playing the harp or staring longingly at the rotating hamburger.

FYI / Seafood sensation - A farm-raised freshwater fish from Peru is drawing raves from local chefs.

A new freshwater fish has landed at select South Florida restaurants, offering diners a rewarding taste sensation and chefs a delectable and sustainable alternative to rival the popular Chilean sea bass.
The Amazone paiche (pronounced pie-ché) gives the health and environmentally conscious a farm-raised option for an endangered wild, prehistoric Peruvian fish, considered one of the largest river fish in the world.
