French fries The McDonald's french fry can trace its heritage all the way back to the original McDonald's restaurant in San Bernardino, Calif., that introduced french fries in 1949; now, the restaurant chain serves approximately four million kilograms of fries every day. And in a 2007 Zagat survey, McDonald's fries got 63 per cent of the vote, compared to just 10 per cent each for runners-up Burger King and Wendy's.
